Speech on Culinary IG

Some people live to eat while others eat to live. Which group do you belong to? Well, whether you’re in the first or second group, or whether you’re new or experienced in the kitchen, you’re welcomed in Culinary IG, where we offer opportunities to discover the joys of food together.

One thing that Culinary IG will help you improve, is your food knowledge. Most of us consume food without knowing where they came from and the nutritional value they possess. Food becomes more meaningful when we know more about it, like how it was grown or made. Culinary IG gives you opportunities to find out. For example, last year, we visited a mushroom farm and learnt more about them like how they are grown. The visit increased our knowledge about mushrooms, which we could then share with people.

Besides increasing food knowledge, members can improve their culinary skills through regular practical cooking sessions. These sessions will hone one’s culinary skills, by providing first-hand kitchen experience. Attending them regularly improves and sharpens your culinary skills. It really doesn’t matter whether you’re an amateur or someone who is familiar in the kitchen, everyone is welcome to join in. Eventually, the more sessions you come for, the more skills you acquire!

Asides from becoming better cooks, one of the joys of food is making people happy. Similarly, we teach our members that food can be used to help others. Service-learning events are encouraged in our IG and we take part in them often. In fact, during the semester break, we helped out in Supermarket Run 7, a family event that promotes healthier food choices. As a student volunteer, I’ve gained some knowledge myself while having fun interacting with people. It made me see how food can bring different people together.

In conclusion, food certainly brings joy to people. In Culinary IG, you’ll get to increase your food knowledge, become better cooks and interact with people through food. Therefore, come join us if food plays an important part in your lives!
